Choose the path to change and lead a better life

S.M.T.™ FOR CHILDREN

At the Life Development Centre our experienced consultants work with young people either individually or within groups to help them cope with the changes, challenges and expectations experienced during the growing years. A variety of school programs are also available. Over a course of sessions the student learns how to let the mind rest in stillness and to become naturally at ease within their daily life. The cycle of stress-anxiety-tension and related difficulties can also be safely explored and supported by the use of literature and creative arts.

“It always makes me happy"– Anna, Year 7

“Stillness helps me clear my head” – Brad, Year 3

“Dreamily I wake, relaxed. Everything seems easy” – Molly, Year 10

Francine Cockerill – working with children

Francine is an Arts graduate and trained counsellor with over 20 years experience in theatre, art and design. She has a natural affinity for the very young and blends her artistic gifts with counselling in introducing Stillness Meditation Therapy (S.M.T.™) to children. Her work at the Life Development Centre and within external class situations has resulted in a wide range of therapeutic and practical benefits for her students.
These include an improvement to anxiety symptoms and behavioural problems and the children’s increased ability to relax and become calm while maintaining the wonder and imagination that is part of childhood.

Kaye Hakopian – working with adolescents

Kaye is a qualified teacher and has over 35 years experience with the Victorian Department of Education including a prominent role in Special Education with the Austin School. In helping adolescents to manage anxiety and stress, Kaye has initiated and assisted at numerous Stillness Meditation Therapy (S.M.T.™) workshops, observing remarkable improvements in her students’ capacity to cope with resilience, manage stress and gain confidence – aptitudes which are especially necessary at secondary school level.

Kaye is gifted in encouraging the positive in young adults, assisting them to develop personal empowerment as through stillness, their inner strength is realized.

Today children live such busy lives we have to ask ourselves do they ever have time to sit and just be? Most schools today have school counselling and social skills programs which can have only a band-aid effect where core problems are not being touched. I think what schools are really trying to achieve is inner peace that will affect the social wellbeing of the children. To date most of our school has completed the 10 week S.M.T. course and comments from the children indicate that this has been a very valuable experience for them. We have noticed a difference. Children are calmer within themselves and our playground has a calm atmosphere. Facilitators Francine and Kaye have been wonderful and the children are the beneficiaries.
