PAULINE'S STORY
Pauline’s early life journey was interrupted by 8 years of acute anxiety resulting in agoraphobia, the fear of leaving the safety of home. Usual treatments made no significant or lasting difference to her symptoms until her life was transformed with full recovery through the extraordinary Stillness Meditation Therapy (S.M.T.™) the therapeutic work of renowned Australian psychiatrist, Dr Ainslie Meares.
In 1983 Pauline published her story – In Stillness Conquer Fear. This book remains an international first and through it Pauline pioneered today’s public awareness of anxiety disorders. In the same year she established her practice, now the Life Development Centre.
Acknowledged by Dr Meares as an exponent of his form of meditation, Pauline has taught and promoted Stillness Meditation for over 25 years. Having successfully ‘walked the talk’ she has been able to help thousands of others find similar recovery.
In 1990 with childhood issues and preventative health in mind, Pauline published Quiet Magic and Help Yourself and Your Child to Happiness, books to help children and their parents with anxiety and stress management. She runs training courses in Stillness Meditation Therapy and has created a teaching manual titled Let’s Be Still together with audio CD’s for adults, adolescents and children. Her programs are used in some Australian schools.
Among other achievements Pauline McKinnon has assisted in the development of a meditation teaching module with the Australian Catholic University. She also lectures as part of that course and is a regular guest presenter at other Australian universities, colleges, schools, community centres, hospitals, corporate and service organizations. She is a Clinical Member of VAFT (Victorian Association of Family Therapists) and a member of the PACFA (Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia) register. She also supports ADAVIC (Anxiety Disorders Association of Victoria) as part of her community service.
